Utopia -- key chain scissor keeper

I don't know about you guys, but when it comes to crafting out side of my home, I take along a basic stamping kit. One of the must haves in my kit is a great pair of sharp scissors. To keep them easily identifiable, I love to make scissor charms.

The one above comes from Queen Kat her name is Utopia.

I stamped her onto the slick side of shrink plastic using black Staz-on Ink. Then I turned the material over and colored on the rough side of the material.

Using caution, I heat set the image until it was completely shrunken down. I let my heat tool cool down a few minutes then I heat the shrink plastic again until it turned clear.

I had previously poked a hole in the piece. Once it was shrank I created a dangle using a piece of broken jewelry. The entire project took about 5 minutes total to complete.

I hope you will give this a try. It was a bunch of fun and there will be no doubt as to whom those scissors belong too.

Have you ever thought it would be nice to communicate with a Senior Citizen who has little or no family left or their family lives far away from them.

Ms. Vivian has been my senior friend for about three years now. The Cancer Angels web site is where you can go and sign up. About mid way down on the right side is a "angel check in" click that to sign up to be a Chemo or Senior angel.

The creative process is enjoyable, you basically have to think postal, sending cards letters, I've even sent pictures of my kids for her to enjoy.

Queen Kat on Tuesday -- Luna's Crystal Ball and a give away!

I have been working on many projects this month for Queen Kat and have decided how much fun would it be to give away these great projects to you our dedicated customers and fans.

In an effort to get your creative juices flowing, I created Luna's Crystal ball using a snow globe I purchased on clearance after the Christmas Holidays. I used a 25 strand white light set also purchased on clearance, cut a small hole in the bottom and threaded the lights up.

Luna is stamped onto tissue paper and colored with my Copic markers. I then cut the image out carefully with very sharp scissors and applied the image to the snow globe using Crystal lacquer. You need to work quickly but delicately to keep the tissue from wrinkling and then seal the top over with another layer of the crystal lacquer.

I then applied various flowers and butterflies to the globe using both E6000 glue and hot glue. The hot glue just holds things in place while the E6000 glue dries. I also used some dangles/baubles and bling from my personal collection. The entire process took about 2 1/2 hours to complete. I hope you will give this a try, it is super easy and fun.

You're never too old

Ok, I had a bit of a sweet tooth and decided the only cure was to make cupcakes. These pictures only prove that you are NEVER too old to lick the cake batter bowl.

Chad was thrilled and a bit annoyed at the picture taking by his mother. Oh the tee-shirt reads "Never look a monkey in the eye". Trust me, it suites him well.

We lost power for a bit last night, but no one noticed talk about all snuggled up tightly in our beds, we where zoned.

It has been a wonderful weekend and Chad has the next couple of days off. Umm, should I turn him into "Cinder fella" or let him play on the computer and Wii until his eyes can't take it any more? Umm I think a mix of the two.

January Swaps for Your Paper Pantry

I got a bit ambitious for January, I joined a bunch of swaps. All are completed and have arrived at the hostess destination except for the mini album that went to Australia.

I joined the pocket for your thoughts,stick pin, mini album spring,mini album dessert recipe, tags,ATC. I assure you I'm missing something on that list, but it was sure fun to participate.

One of my favorites was the altered tag. I cut the bird cage out with my Accucut Grand Marc machine from medium (recycled) chipboard which I covered in soft muted papers sprayed with home made glimmer mist. I stamped the image and finished off the tag with a bird. The theme was "winter", and I kept it simple, yet it came out so nicely. I'm very proud of my work.

Speaking of work, I stood on the scale this morning. Drum roll please. As of this morning according to my personal scale, I've lost 30 pounds. Yup, 30. Now about 25/30 more pounds needs to leave before the wedding of Michael and Julie in June.

We have a busy year upon us, and are very excited to have these many blessings given to us.

Grace by Micah Carmichael and Luna by Kerry Swinamer

Hi Friends!

It is Tuesday and time for some more of the yummy Queen Kat stamps.

The first project is using Luna on a dream journal. Very simple. I used a junior legal pad that was purchased from an office supply store and measured it. I covered the journal with brown card stock.

I taped the paper pad to the inside back cover, slit two holes for ribbon closure and covered the front with different patterned papers from Jillibean soup purchased from my local craft store.

I attached Luna to the front with E6000 glue. Then I attached the different "do dads" to the front with the same adhesive. I used a sentiment from my personal stash and hand wrote out dream, love, faith,pray randomly over the cover. The entire project took less than 10 minutes.

For the Grace image, I kept things simple yet elegant. She was stamped onto Copic card using memento tuxedo black ink. She was then colored with copic markers. I trimmed the image out using scissors.

Using card stock from my stash, I layered on different papers and flowers to give her a more finished look.

I really like the way both projects turned out. I hope you will give them a try!

It is Tuesday! Happy New Year!

January 1 marked my ONE YEAR anniversary as a designer for Queen Kat! It is hard to believe.

OK, need to do a video tutorial for this project, but until I can get to that here are the basic instructions. Grace by Micah Carmichael and Luna by Kerry Swinamer.

The first picture is of Luna. This is so easy a kid can do it, literally. Take a small hand full of Crayola Model Magic and using a polymer clay roller or dowel, roll it out to about 1/8". While it is still soft stamp the image into the clay using Memento Tuxedo black in.

Then, using your copic markers color the image just like you would on paper, just be sure to use a light touch. Sketch markers work best. When blending colors, don't push into the clay or you'll create dimples.

Next, using your heat gun, and a non-stick craft mat or release foil, heat the image, it will start to bubble up a bit and don't forget to turn it over. I put a hole in the top of Luna so she can be a necklace, she would be totally great as a medallion or pin embellishment for a dream journal.

Once the image is completely dry (you will have to heat the front and back) use some Crystal lacquer and seal it. Place it aside to dry. I didn't not use a thick coat and it still took nearly 2 hours to dry.

This is just such a fun project. I bought 2 gallons of the crayola stuff from my local craft store. You don't even have to do the math on this one. A four ounce container was $4.00. A two gallon container was $22.00 minus my 40% off coupon. That is value my friend.

A pocket for your thoughts YPP Swap Lots of pictures!!

I will admit that I am not much of a sewer. This project became a challenge for me.

I was grateful that the hostess, Jane did a video tutorial on the cutting and sewing. The first one (the one that has Live on the front) came out great.

When I started the sewing of the second, I had all kinds of problems. First the feed dogs ate my bobbin, and I had to take off the cover plate and dig all the thread out. Then rewound the bobbin and started again. Same problem. I finally broke down and bought a new pre-wound bobbin. This ended my problems.

The second one was not only wop-sided but it was much smaller than the first. It wasn't even worth trying to save -- in the trash it went.

The then when I re-made the second It was much easier, the sewing seemed to be easier. I didn't worry about perfectly straight seams, as imperfections are easily covered.

The fabric was stamped with versa mark brown chalk in and black staz. The fabric was over sprayed with Tattered Angels suede and light green mists. It is very shimmery in person.

I enjoyed the challenge and am pretty proud of the way these turned out. Have a great day. Stamp Happy be a blessing.

Die Cut Crafts owner "T" will be celebrating her birthday in early January. I am starting a package of goodies for her. For my birthday/Christmas gift, she sent me an awesome envelope of goodies.

She sent a few of her great die cuts, this one is actually a licence plate. I covered it with DCWV four seasons stack, which I sanded and sponged with brown ink, the flowers are I am roses and wild orchid crafts. Spray is from Lindy's, other embellishments are a 3D transparency butterfly.

Snowman Mini - Accucut

Build an Album, Snowman

I don't think this can get any cutter than it already is. I used a DCWV current (2011) paper stack for this project.

Recycled materials in this project include the snowman on the front cover, cut from a flat rate box and then painted and embellished.

Many of the interior pages where cut from recycled medium weight chipboard found in paper packs. The lace is up cycled from my collection, along with the buttons.

I used some Crayola air dry clay to cover the inside snowman, I heat set the clay with my heat tool which gave the material a wonderful texture. It is fun to touch it.

I enjoyed our short trip.

I colored the image in with my copic markers and use a small piece of plastic bubble wrap to create a more textured back drop.

The card is meant to be simple, yet elegant and I achieved this by using dark rich colors and simple layering. The sentiment is from Hero Arts.

A visit with Dorthy -- Adoption Reunion Chronicles

Hi everyone!

Mike and I made a quick trip down to Alabama to visit my birthmother and some of the family.

One of the gifts I bought for my birth mother was some makeup, she had wanted some and I went all out. I purchased a nice set of makeup from Estee Lauder from my Post Exchange. It was a great price and she loved it.

I know this sounds kinda Corny, but this was the first time we have ever spent my birthday together. That part was kinda weird and wonderful all at the same time.

It was so good to see so many for lunch at Ryan's in Dalton, Ga. I have to admit that the trip from Dawson to Dalton takes about one and a half hours. Dorthy has a loud voice. By time we got her home, I had a screaming headache and we still had another two hours to travel.

Count it up, three hours round trip with Dorthy and another two hours, well, that is five hours total in a car in one day.

We stayed at the Radisson in Huntsville, Al. The hotel is in much need of some renovations, it was dated, but having a sleep number bed was a plus. Might just need to buy us one.

queen Kat, What Lies Beneath by Kristin Palmer

I made this beautiful card using the What Lies Beneath by Kristin Palmer. It can be purchased at the Queen Kat website.

It is a 5 1/2" square card. I layered the pieces at a diamond angle for more interest. I colored the image with my copic marker's and then using some light blue glitter and crystal effects put dots on the focal image to look like water. I also used wire that I curled and flowers from Recollections.

To finish off this project, I used some clear dew drops and some ribbon for added interest.

1. Stamp "under the sea" image onto a Heat proof transparency using Versa mark ink and then covering with black embossing powder. Carefully emboss the image, then flip the image over and color with your favorite coloring medium, I used my copic markers.

2. Stamp the image onto your favorite colored card stock with versa mark ink and black detail embossing powder, emboss with your heat tool.

3. Place the transparency over top of the card stock and line it up, vies the illusion of water.

4. Use glossy accents or other dimensional adhesive to attach the transparency on top of the card stock. Be careful not to use too much or they won't stick, the pieces will just kinda slide around.

5. Using your favorite embossing folder, I embossed some blue card stock and placed it onto a pink card base. Then once the glossy accents was dry, I fussy cut around the image. The final effect is stunning, she looks dimensional and like she is truly floating.

Isn't just amazing how you can start off a year in one direction and watch it change dramatically going in an entirely different direction?

If any one doubt's that start with the post in January and watch the progression. I have always felt that my life especially shared with Michael, have been more than just blessed.

I have no doubts that we will like all couples have our trails, but the bottom line is I am HIS wife. Nothing will change that.

We had such a great time at his company's Christmas party. It was at a fancy-dancy hotel in Anne Arundel, called "The Hotel". This part of our community is ramping up for the casino's to start coming in. Every time I drive out there (about 10 miles or so) it has changed once again.

There where douevers, now one of my favorite's was this spinach wrapped inside of a puff pastry, it was so good. I'd never had beef wellington before, but they had them wrapped up in like a won-ton type wrapper. Oh so good.

The douevers where served in a large atrium with well appointed decor and furniture. Very beautiful place. After that we went into a large dinning room, with beautiful decorations.

There was an open bar, and I really enjoyed some nice Chardonnay. The buffet has seafood, prime rib, wonderfully flavored veggies and so many wonderful deserts to choose from.

Mind you I can only eat about 5-10 ounces at any given time, my stomach has shrunk quiet a bit since my surgery. On that note, I am still recovering well. Just need to work at getting my energy back up. After about 30 minutes of housework, I'm spent.

Dorthy is doing well. We will be traveling to see her during the holiday season. I'll keep you posted. I promise my hubby (aka scrubby) will take bunches of pictures.

I am using some copic quality card stock today, and really loving how the markers react to the paper and how easily they blend together.

Stay tuned, I am hoping to receive my new Snowman album die in the next couple of weeks, it is so adorable, I so look forward to receiving it.

Hi my stamping Friends

Today's post focus' on Swaps, as crafter's we often join Mini book swaps, card swaps and other swaps, after a run of what I call bad luck with swaps, I'm stepping forward to share some things with the newbie swapper so he she can have successful swaps.

If you are new to swaps in general, communication with the swap hostess is critical. He/she will be happy to help you with questions and even provide feedback on your project if you would like a second opinion.

I highly suggest before you sign up for any swap, regardless of the type, that you PLEASE go out to You tube and watch some video's. You tube is very user friendly and key words like "mini book", go a long way. These not only give you ideas and encouragement, they will teach you some old and new techniques to use in your project.

Do your best work, something you would be proud to receive in the mail. Think about what your swap partner would like to have, especially essential when it is a one on one swap.

If you are on a site that has threads, subscribe or follow the thread of swaps you are participating. This will keep you in the loop of any changes or of information you need to know.

I love new swappers, they keep us old timers on our toes, especially when you are enthusiastic and willing to learn.

Paper Smooches -- Fun Cards!

I used a sizzix tree die I purchased last year on the card to add a bit more Wimsey to the focal image, not that that is possible, since that image is so darn cute. I am trying out for the Design team at Paper Smooches, so wish me luck! I used some papers from my stash to create the fun layered effect.

The image is colored with my copic markers, I pieced the antlers for a more 3D type of look.

It was just lucky on my part to have ordered my kit from Paper Smooches last week. It arrived yesterday and I couldn't wait to dig in and play. I also stamped the sentiment "happy belated birthday" inside of the card.

The image was stamped onto red card stock using memento tuxedo black ink, I then highlighted the image with some R27 copic marker. This added a bit of depth. I also used wiggle eyes and stamped the claws out a second time and using dimensional dots, adhered them on the image for a more finished appearance.

Hi my Stamping Friend!

It is Tuesday and that means some fun with Queen Kat Stamps! This stamp is Provisions in Transport by Monika Ptok Byard.

Ok, I will tell all of you that I actually (gasp) lost this stamp, I couldn't find it any where, then today when I was getting ready to do some more Christmas stamping, it was in with my Christmas stamps. Duh, I certainly wouldn't have looked there.

So, I whipped up this cute quick card. I used earthy colors for the focal image and the sentiment is a stamp from my stach.

Oh I love Christmas!

The cute card image is from Penny black and the sentiment is from Whipper Snapper Stamps.

The card measures in at 5 1/2" square. I embellished it with a Martha Stewart snowflake punch.

I used some blue tones in the altered note pad gift, I wanted it to be pretty. I really like the way the project turned out.

Now the hard part, trying to decide what else to make and to send in Ms. Vivian's package. I really have enjoyed being a senior Angel these last couple of years.

Lindy's product Review

My Lindy's Order with extra goodness!

Hi crafty friends,

It is a cold day here in Southern Maryland. I have spent a good deal of time just trying to rest, take some cold medications and do a bunch of nothing.

It is a wonder I am even doing a post today. Blogger doesn't seem to want to keep my font or colors all the same as I choose them, and will have to go back over this post to be sure there aren't any funny differences in the font types,sizes or colors.

I have only seen and read good things about the Lindy's stamp gang sprays. They arrived yesterday in a flat rate envelope, which had been torn apart in the postal system, and taped back together.

I really think they should have been mailed in a flat rate box, it would have protected the product much better.

When the product arrives, there are no how to instructions on how to mix them or what to mix the colors with. I found a video that said hot tap water to the fill line, shake until completely dissolved and wait 10 minutes to use.

I really think a small instruction sheet would have saved me time.

The products are indeed shimmery. Honestly, their is not any big difference between this product and the ones from the Glimmer mist products. Lindy's does seem to have some underlying two tone, but not much.

The mica powders are also nothing new, they do seem a bit more fine than the perfect pearls powders I have used in the past. So be prepared to wipe your hands off.

The order arrived quickly and the product is nice. Do a sample pack, and enjoy!

Hi friends, It's Tuesday and time for some queen kat love. I have misplaced two stamps and decided to repost some past projects via a video above.

It's beginning to look like Christmas!!

Just the thought of Christmas makes me one happy girl!

Even as a young child, I loved Christmas. It has always been a magical time in my life and this year is no different. Since our remodel project is complete, that means decorating, and lots of it.

We are preparing by buying some cute garlands for the front of our home (the new porch) and will be buying more Christmas lights and such for the outside.

I am participating in a Secret Santa Swap on YPP. The bolsters (pop dots) came from Texas Jody Lynn and her shop is here. I adore these dimensional dos, especially the black ones. They are covered in red-liner tape and are very strong and durable. I just placed an order, so please tell her "Loretta" sent you.

I hope you are all doing well. I had a fantastic follow up with the surgeon who has graciously released me to return to 'normal' life including lifting over 10 pounds. Joy oh joy, that means I need to get to some much needed deep house work.

I can't complain, my dear husband has been helping me and I know if I get behind or in a pinch he will happily help me in the future.

Hi friends, sorry for no post earlier this week for Queen Kat. I have had a bit of a tummy issue the last couple of days, but am happy to report I feel much better!

This Provisions in Transport stamp by Monika Byard is available for only $4.99. I really think it is a very cute image. I colored it with copic markers and used Shape-z dies to cut out the center portion of this card.

I then stamped, "You're so special" with a stamp from my personal selection and am really enjoying the way it came together. Flowers are from recollections, and Wild orchid crafts.

Christmas Cards 2011

Sorry for no music, I"ll try and re-edit and add some fun Christmas music. I was at least hoping for an html file that I could have some music playing inside the blogger window while you watch the cards flutter by, but no such luck.
I have made these Christmas cards for family and friends over the last 2 weeks, I think I've made 15 of them, not a bad start, I figure I need about 10 more, and I'll be finished just in time for Christmas mailing. Before my birthday this year!

Hummingbird Queen Kat stamps by Nora Blansett

I just love the stamp designed by Nora Bansett, this stamp is simply called "Hummingbird".

I stamped the image onto high quality card stock with Memento Tuxedo black ink and colored it in with my copic markers. To add a bit of interest to the green I added in just a hint of blue.

The image has a small flower toward the bottom of the stamp, which is really cute, but since I was going for a more subdued look, I chose to fussy cut this small flower away from the main image. This freed the bird up to look more in flight.

I then used dimensional dots to place the image on the front of the checkbook cover. The checkbook cover is a sizzix die, This die is currently on sale from $40.00 to $7.99. What a fantastic savings, please click here to buy the die.

I will admitt the first time I put the pieces of the die cut together, I had to channel my inner 1st grader and remember how to tie a shoe. It was just kinda that type of day.

sixty one days until Christmas! With Project slide show!

I have had such a nice day. I am enjoying the weather as it starts to cool down and we look forward to the fall and winter holidays.

It is hard to even conceive that Christmas is 61 short days away. I had a very special lady step up and help with a swap I hosted on line. It was unfortunate that during this swap we had one participant that not only didn't want to follow the rules, but frankly made the experience unpleasant for the rest of us.

In spite (or because of) the situation, I had one lady who was determined to make this swap a success, and a success it is. This swap will be closing in the next couple of weeks and I am so grateful that it is ending on a high note.

Just a health update picture's of had 17 b'day celebration

Since we last visited, we decided to take Chad out for Birthday dinner a wee bit early. He wanted to celebrate at Don Pablo's here in Laurel, MD and we where happy to accommodate.

I have to admit the food and service where not to their normal high standards. But we enjoyed a good time together. This baby will turn 17 tomorrow.

On a side note, I went in on Oct 12, for my surgery and was released yesterday morning to come home. I spent much of yesterday laying and trying to rest in bed. Which was somewhat successful. Even our three fur babies seem to notice that mommy has a sore tummy. Mike had to go back to work yesterday so before he left he made me a 'pillow' damn to keep those puppies away from my chest.

I'm still only able to have clear fluids, my kingdom for a candy bar (darn it). I have to wait about 4 to 6 weeks to be able to do that. I also go to speak with a diabetes nurse who also gave me a diet for the follow up from surgery and my diabetes to help control it, loose some weight and get back go a more normal healthy lifestyle.

I would like to thank each of you for your support and loving prayers during this time. I am still very sore, in a little pain but just glad I can sit and kinda clean off my craft desk so I can stamp some this afternoon.

A kwel Halloween Tag -- From queen Kat

I made this way cool halloween tag using the queen kat halloween friends from Marlon. This adorable set of stamps comes with four pumkins and 2 sentiments. Oh, but hurry it is now on SALE.

I stamped colored and cut out each pumpkin. Applied glitter glue to each and allowed them to dry. I used sizzix ghosts #2 to the tag. They are cut from white card stock and sponged. The tag is made using some DCSW cards stock I purchased about a year ago.

Do not worry about me, I may not post for several days, I am having surgery on Oct 12, and will be recovering for a few days. I am sure I will catch you all up very soon.

Hello friends!

It's Tuesday and you all know what that means! It is time for Queen Kat! I used the new Pumpkin friends by Marlon T.

I just love the versatility of this small stamp set. I cut out the pumpkins after stamping them onto Hammer Mill 100# 98 brightness card stock. I colored them with copic markers.

After the coloring was complete, I placed them onto a layered orange base using my mono adhesive. The image was also stamped with memento tuxedo black ink.

Holiday Planner -- snow flake mini in country colors

I used the accucut builder album snow flake. I dug into my bin of Christmas themed papers from Jillibean soup, Basic Grey, Doodlebug and DCSW designs.

I really loved atching and mixing the different papers and designs. I used the new Christmas tree die from Sizzix.

Using Shrinky Dink brand plastic, I die cut the trees, colored and shrank them with a heat gun. I embellished with stickles and glossy accents.

To achieve the more dimensional snow look, I added some heat to the glossy accents to make it bubble up a bit, it finished off the look of the book very nicely.

The adoption Reunion Chronicles Miracles do happen!

Elizabeth called me late on October 2,2011 with wonderful news. She has been searching for another set of sister nieces, Kristie and Casey for many years.

They are the children of JL Roberson who died several years because of complications with both kidney failure and heart failure. The girls did not know that their father had passed away.

I had tried to search face book, but now knowing where the girls reside at currently didn't bear any fruit. Kristie is doing well, goes by Krissy and is living with her boy friend and 4 month old baby in Oklahoma.

When Ibbit called me tonight I thought she was going to faint. She was so excited and thrilled she was (once again) crying. I was thrilled, and thankful!

I had promised Dorthy that I would call her back as Ibbit had "beeped" in during our conversation, when I did call to tell Dorthy the super news, she cried and said "This is my best year yet, I found my daughters, and now I've found my nieces".

I just can't believe it. For those of you who want to call it fate, and those of you who believe that homosexuals deserve to be "Married". Well, I'm here to tell you differently.

I really don't care if my 'readership' slows down or stops because of the following statements. I actually SUPPORT the right of homosexuals to have a CIVIL union.

It is not a marriage. A marriage is the relationship between a man and a woman. Nothing else. On that note, yes, I think homosexuality is wrong. Just like any other sin, it is forgivable and the person in such sin can repent.

As for fate, no such thing. If you have been following my story or are joining us in this late in the game, please know that I am a FIRM believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. You can call our story, our life fate if you want, I call it a miracle.

Beautiful Card for Queen Kat with a beautiful Pin!

This beautiful stamp can be purchased through Queen's ink's store here.

I colored the main image with copic markers and layered her onto black white and pink card stock. I used Wild Orchid Craft and I am Roses flowers to embellish the card. I also used a dotted black ribbon for accent.

Using Shrinky Dink brand shrink plastic, I stamped the image using StazOn black ink onto the slick side of the plastic, I turned over the piece and colored it from the opposite side with the same markers I used on the focal image of the cards.

I trimmed the image closely and following manufacture's directions shrank the piece. Once it was shrunken down, I used my heat gun on the rough side of the piece and heated it until it turned crystal clear. After the piece was completely cool, I applied a bit of Crystal Lacquer to the back and layerd on a piece of pink card stock. This was trimmed up with an exacto knife.

I then applied a small pin back to the back of the piece using the same crystal lacquer.

This will make a great gift! I can see using the pin on a purse or even clothing, it is just beautiful

It is a dreary raining day here in Southern Maryland. It is cool outside and the three dogs are snuggled tightly on the coach and puppy bed on the floor. Buttercup is snoring.

There are socks to be sorted and laundry to fold. Dishes need to be put away and tha mountain of mail on the dining room table needs to be sorted.

Adoption Reunion Chronicles -- the Struggle for balance.

This post is more a meat and potatoes kind of post than anything else.

You see, Dorthy wants me to call her "mom" all the time and I just can't do that, at least not yet. The honest truth is I don't know that I ever will be able to do that. As my husband put it, "Loretta you're just not that attached to her (Dorthy) yet.

Plain yet simple truth, I have struggled with trying to balance kindness with my own needs to care for our home and family.

I still have Chad to care for, this house is in need of a great vacuum job and one of the dogs decided she thought it would be a great idea to roll in a pile of grass clippings that have been decomposing for quiet some while.

Can you say ick? It was gross. She was literally green. Any part of her body that had white fur was now this well shade of baby poop green. I picked her up, and took her straight to the sink, both laughing and wondering how the heck she got so messy.

She took her 'medicine' well, and didn't fuss when I bathed her, quiet the opposite, she seemed to know that the price for her crime was a good wash and go.

My other struggle with her is though I do feel "love" for her, and really desire to get to know her more, if she continues to call me when I've told her as kindly as I can that I will call you tomorrow or later on today (what-ever) I will have to simply allow the phone to go to voice mail.

I tried to explain to her I actually understand how she feels. With Craig now grown and gone, I am not able to speak with him as often as I like. Gone are the days when we could just chat on the phone. He has his own grown up world and life, I just have to trust he will always love me and will call to talk when he is able.

She seemed a little bit more settled after that part of the conversation. We'll see how it goes. I need to start turning my attention toward her health, and get her to sign a release so her physician can speak with me about her current care (or in her case lack thereof).

I am also concerned that she is not getting the proper amount or types of nutrition, she has to be over 350# with type II Diabetes neither are good factors. I need to dive in and be sure she has enough money for good groceries.

The same goes for Elizabeth (Aunt Ibbit) she had $16 left after paying her bills and used it to buy a few groceries. I am trying to find out how I can purchase a gift card for her at the place she likes to grocery shop.

The alternative is getting a Walmart gift card since she does have a Super Walmart near her home.

I am genuinely concerned about each of them, I highly believe I have returned at a time in each of their lives that I can possibly affect some positive change. I hope and pray the Lord will continue to use me to both bless and help them in any way I am able.

Elizabeth's teeth The Adoption Reunion Chronicles

What a wonderful morning it has been. OK, mostly wonderful.

I had the refrigerator from hell to deal with, so while I was washing shelves and removing questionable produce from there, I decided it was time for a much needed brake.

I called my Aunt Elizabeth, to see how she was fairing and to find out when she was finally going to get her self some new dentures.

Many years ago she had to have all 24 of her teeth pulled because a dentist had put lead fillings in her mouth, the lead started to poison her entire system and she managed to scrape enough money up to be put to sleep to have all the extractions done in one sitting.

She has finally gotten some funds up for new permanent dentures, and she is so excited

Her son, Tim who has been clean and sober for the last 18 months, interviewed for a job today. He is so proud. As I am of him and his continuing efforts to stay clean and sober to gain an income and help to support his mother.

Dorthy is doing well, she is finally settling down and I am happy to report that she hasn't called me at 1:30 am again lately. Ahh, sweet rest.

I Need a Bigger Jar by Carla Morrow (Little Wings) This adorable stamp is from Queen Kat Stamps!

This card is a great example of using Queen Kat stamps along with supplies you already have. I used the new Inkadinkado dollar stamps I purchased from Joann's craft storey today. I had such a great time shopping there.

This is also a project I utilized papers from my scrap stach. These where parts of other projects I cut down and sponged to get the final project finished and polished.

Once again I colored this image with copic markers and once again I couldn't resist the opportunity to use another google eye.

Finally, some resemblance of "normal" that is if I can convince Dorthy that calling me at 1:30 am is not such a great idea.

I wanted to post the top picture of she and I eating out at Red Lobster before our trip ended last week. I had such a good time and still (for the most part) enjoy our daily chats.

While I was in Marietta, waiting for my flight back to Baltimore, I stopped at several stamp stores.

I bought this set entitled Craftier Tag lines from one of the stores, The sentiments are from There she Goes, LLC. I love all the inky friendly sayings, and paired them with an image from Paper Pretties, the little girl is holding a suite case, and since I was traveling when I bought the stamps, thought it was perfect.

I used my big shot to cut the nestabilities dies and used scrap paper from my whimsical mini stack from DCWV. All images are colored with my copic markers.

I hope you will enjoy this card, I'm meeting my friend Erin for lunch and some shopping tomorrow. I am so looking forward to some girl time, she is the 'go to' girl for ordering sushi! I have such a nice time with her.

John and Mike

I am so touched that these wonderful people, my family want to have an active part in my life. Mind you I think my left ear may fall off at any time, but even that is OK with me!

While John and I chatted during lunch last Saturday, he shared with me that he had an appointment on Wednesday to see a Surgeon. His doctor's suspect he has male breast cancer.

The surgeon took him to the procedure room this morning and did a large bore needle biopsy. He called to let me know he did well with the surgery, but felt like he had been poked with a straw. I can relate as I have had a couple of breast biopsies myself.

He will be getting the results of the test on Monday. I am praying that there is nothing to be concerned with.

I am so glad he called to let me know he is for now OK.

Doodles. I did not get to meet George last Saturday as he was working. He works for a man that buys and flips houses. According to him 'there ain't nothin I can't fix'. He also remembers me as a child, but was fairly young.

He hopes that the next time I plan to go and visit Dorthy that I will be able to see him then. He is working near Marietta and when he is working stays not very far from the Atlanta Airport.

He keeps a small trailer on Elizabeth's property. When he is not working, that is where he lives.

He went on to tell me he thought that he was probably the healthiest of the bunch. With no need for any type of medications.

He enjoys the hard work and loves to see the project when it is finished.

Dorthy and Loretta meet ! THE ADOPTION REUNION CHRONICLES!

What a wonderful journey I have been able to enjoy these last several weeks. Yes, as many of you have guessed, I was able to fly to Atlanta with Mike and drive into Alabama to meet my birth mom, Dorthy and many of my extended family.

Friday, Dorthy and her long time boy-friend Bill met us at the hotel where Mike and I where staying. After trying several times to attach the actual You Tube video here, it failed, please click here for the picture slide show. Please listen to the music.

I was anxious, but very much looking forward to seeing what she looks like. I think she favors my sister, Barbara.

The reunion was both happy and sad. Since my younger sister has passed away, I only had pictures and stories of this beautiful young woman. Her life cut short by bad choices and decisions.

The family met us for lunch on Saturday at Shoney's restaurant in Dalton, GA. It was attended by more than 23 adults and 4 children. Every one took pictures using cell phones or disposable camera's.

Mike and I where so happy and blessed to be able to make this meal possible.

We where both greeted with smiles, stories and both regret and praise. I heard again and again stories of being taken and how every one always wanted to know what had happened to Barbara and I.

I brought pictures with me to share with the family and they where well received.

I have many new phone numbers and address and am looking forward to a long relationship with each of them.

I am so looking forward to sharing more life experiences, joys, hopes and dreams with Dorthy and my many extended family members.

Thank you for continuing to follow our journey. I praise God for his blessings and our family.

Rosebud by Samantha Nowak and I Need a Bigger Jar by Carla Morrow (Little Wings). OK, the pictures did not upload in order, and after trying for 35 + minutes to get them together, I ran out of patience and decided to go forward with this post. Click here to buy these stamps.

For the "I need a bigger Jar", I used glossy accents to accent his dots, then added a wiggly eye. The treat box is cut from a sizzix die "suitecase" and I ran it throug my cuttle bug machine. I used brown card stock from the craft store for this project.

The Rose Bud lady is stamped onto high quality white card stock and is cut out closely and attached with dimensional dots to the top of an altered baby wipe container.

Cousin Jason and Aunt Samantha -- the unfolding stories The adoption Reunion Chronicles

Reunion goodies

Now cousin Jason is getting a bit too comfy with the cell phone and our house number. He called yesterday out of the clear blue just to let me know that his wife would also be joining us when we travel down and share a meal as a family.

He told me that he has recently purchased 2.3 acres of land and it had two 'home trailers' and a barn on the property. He decided he 'didn't care' for the siding on one of those 'home trailers' and decided to rip it off.

In the process he sliced open one of his hands' clear down to tha bone'. I asked why was he calling me when he needed to go get stitches. His reply was "nah, I need a clean rag and duct tape, it'll do jus fine, besides if I loose a finger I have nine more". Oh dear.

Then I started getting passed around, now mind you these folks all know me and they know each other, but I don't really know one of them from the rest at all.

To top that part off, they 'ferget' to tell me who they are when they call. Ok, to use the old saying "they all sound alike", well is kinda an understatement.

None of them seem to realise that right now I feel like I'm one against a mob. I was telling my dear husband Mike about the latest conversations and he just smiled.

Samantha likes to be called "Tootsie", you know Darling, like the candy. Apparently she has had 7 children and only 2 of them lived. She had her first set of twins at 14 (seems to be a pattern) and they where still born.

They have all lived hard lives and do the best they can and are believers in helpin out the neighbor when they can.

I agree with a long time friend from Augusta, she sent me a dear message and it simply stated "you don't just need a reporter, you need to write a book". I just might do that.

So, folks, please forgive this post,I'm hoping to actually correct it before the end of the day.

I really wanted this to go up on Tuesday, but after the storm moved through our area the hubby and I had a mess of a Laundry room. We decided to put our work gloves on and clean it up. It still needs work, but it is much better.

I can not for the life of me remember the name or artist of this stamp. So if you are not a memeber of the Queen Kat court, and are the first to tell me the name of the stamp, you win this project. The adoption Reunion Chronicles -- Meet Aunt Samantha and cousin Jason

I have more extended family that I can possibly count right now. Trust me I tried.

Elizbeth calls me almost every other day and now the youngest, Samantha who is about 1 year and 2 months older than I also has called. Samantha was named after her mother. She now lives with her family in Dalton, Ga and will be joining us for lunch when we travel down to meet the family.

My dear husband told me he felt that an episode of "Jerry Springer" would break out at any time.

Samantha new about me, but as an infant herself didn't remember any thing about me or my sister, Barbara. However, like many family members, wanted to find me and know what happened to me and what had happened with my life.

She has led a simple life, she can read and write, but has very limited comprehension skills.

Jason - now here is a colorful character. He has a boy that is 6 but the 'baby momma' doesn't like him because after a long term relationship, he "up and married" some one else. A month after he wed they where in a serious car accident. The officer told him that his young wife was dead and handed him her wedding rings. Apparently Jason didn't take the news "so good" and broke the officers jaw in two places. Landing him a bit of time in the county jail.

Jason was a hard core Meth addict for about 7 years. He would "do my dope" and go and work a full day. I couldn't function without it". He has had one "binge" and decided it wasn't for him and has been clean and sober for about 3 years.

OK, he and his current father in law are loggers, swamp loggers to be exact. I teasingly asked him if he was on TV he told me no! He has led a hard life, is missing some of his teeth and is 26 years old and thrilled to find he has yet another cousin.

These people are so precious, genuine and simple. I know my life is forever blessed to be part of this community.

If this wasn't happening to me, I wouldn't even believe it. I am so thrilled to be part of this on-going story of Trusting the Lord and allowing his leadership in my heart and life and the lives of my extended family.

On a side note, yesterday's conversation with Ibbit (Elizabeth) contained 2 more recipes details of the small area in which they live, including directions to the Walmart. Along with an approximate head count of how many folks we can expect to share a meal with Mike and I. Yes, we are traveling soon, but for the safety of my family I will not be sharing the information here on the blog.

Altered Baby wipe Container - lots of pics!

Dorthy continues to be nervous about the impact Irene will have on my family, so far we are doing well. The wind has picked up and the rain is falling hard. She called me this afternoon while I was napping and left the "Loretta its jus' your mom, I'll catch you soon". Baby Loretta is happy.

On that note, yes I will always struggle with the fact she neglected my care while an infant, but I've now balanced it with the fact she was just a young girl and not able to really know better.

We've lost power a couple of times, so everyone in this house (except the puppies as they don't have opposable thumbs) has a flashlight in a pocket. Candles are at the ready and the generator is filled with gas and ready to go.

Why alter a baby wipe container, well -- I needed a mojo fix. I had this plain and ordinary container for the wipes. I use them every day to clean stamps, hands and even puppy faces.

I started my quest with my vast paper stash, did some quick measuring and tracing and went for it from there. I used I am roses and Wild orchid craft flowers for most of the top. The paper is from Paper Trey ink.

The silver threads are DMC floss and every thing was distressed slightly.

Next time I do one, I'm picking wipes that have a flat top without a middle opening, it is difficult to easy the paper around that oval curve.

Bracing for a Storm and update on my current health

I did not post yesterday because I spent a majority of the day in the outpatient procedure building at John's Hopkins Medical Center.

I needed to have an upper endoscopy with BRAVO pH placement. I have been suffering from GERD (gastric esophagus reflux disease) for many years. I have a hital hernia that is making the symptoms worse.

I really need to have a surgical procedure to fix the hole. After yesterday's procedure, I have this monitor around my neck that checks the PH level in my stomach. My chest is very tight and it is hard to eat or drink. Bending over is also a problem.

I still have to have a barium swallow test in September and then we can discuss surgical options, dates and that kind of stuff. I can expect to be inpatient for 3-5 days. I may even have the opportunity to have my stomach stapled since that procedure is also an excellent way to control the reflux.

Birth mom was so cute, even though I assured her I would call when I could yesterday she called twice. I came home and went to sleep as did Mike (Hubby) who had gotten off a more than 18 hour straight work day.

She is also worried about the upcoming storm. We are starting to prepare. We have a new sump pump, and have cleared a shelf that sat beside the hole so if we have to bail we can. We purchased a generator from Sears and Mike is going to pick that up this morning.

I need to go and get some water, batteries and a couple more lighters to be prepared. I have candles and flashlights at the ready.

Today's post is not unlike my other chronicles in this journey of finding out who my birth mother is and the circumstances in which she found herself at age 14.

Before I continue, I do need to correct something. My birth mother's language and very thick southern accent coupled with there are times I know she doesn't even comprehend what I am saying, my last name at birth was BONE not Vone, I had to repeat it several times and verify with Marissa.

I spoke with Dorthy twice yesterday. I was proud that she allowed me to have my space while I "digested" if you will the information I found in the non-identifying information report given to me by the Georgia Adoption Reunion Registry.

I am thankful that Marissa, our social worker called to let me know some of the items contained in the report. She knew it would forever change me. Indeed it has.

I have never felt as if I where better than anyone else. Quiet the contrary. I want to maintain a servants heart and continue to serve the Lord as if I'm the only Jesus some will ever see. Yes it is an older Christian song sung by Steve Green, but the words ring true in my heart.

I now have to keep reminding myself of the poor economic situation and lack of education Dorthy had. The report says that she finished 6th grade when in fact she only finished 5th grade. Most of the children didn't fair any better.

Even her mother had at best a 2nd grade education.

If you are a reader and just think that there is only fate or Karma, please start over, read our story from the beginning and allow your heart to be open to truth.

Truth is, since the very beginning of my life and from now until the end of my life the Lord's hand has been on my heart and life. It is so clear how he has placed people, circumstances and angels in my path to guide and direct me for his glory.

My life verse: Jeremiah 29-14 "I (the Lord) know the plans I have made for you (not your plans, mine). Plans to give you a hope (even when you don't see it) and a purpose (my purpose) to prosper you (provide your needs) and not harm you (allow me to have control) when you seek me you shall find me when you seek me with all of your heart."

Pray the Lord will give me the words I need to continue this journey with hope, love and give him praise in all that I do.

How adorable is this? I love this little dude. He so has 'attitude'. This stamp is from Queen Kat Stamps.

The image is stamped onto heavy weight card stock, colored with copic markers and trimmed closely to the margins. This project is a perfect example of how to marry things you already have with Queen Kat stamps.

The background paper is from DCSW and I over stamped the bats (studio g) using black memento ink. To keep the colors a bit more on the subdued side, I sponged the edges and chose a ribbon that I felt was not too girly.

The Adoption Reunion Chronicles -- taking the bad with the good

Since Tuesday's blog posting schedule is generally for my design team work for Queen Kat, I decided to do a second blog post today, August 22,2011.

I am posting pictures of Lexie and Buttercup shortly after grooming to give you something fun to look at while reading the bitter and sicking truth.

I am documenting dates here on the blog so that later on I will be able to recall them without looking else where.

Today's afternoon entry is very hard for me. It will chronicle some of the details in which circumstances necessitated my being put into foster care and later adopted.

I'll keep this part kinda short since the details are pretty horrendous.

Please keep in mind that Dorthy was 14 and married. When I was about 9 months old she was staying with a lady for whom she baby sat. The lady called social services to have me evaluated and was afraid if nothing was done "She will surly die".

Hard words to read, they give me goose bumps. I was found to have skin so thin that my bones where visible. I could not hold up my head nor could I grasp things. I was filthy dirty and was sleeping in a small bed with dirty blankets and my diaper not only was soiled, but I had well -- tummy issues.

I was taken and placed into foster care, the direct record seems to indicate I was kept in the hospital for about 2 weeks because of the severe malnutrition and dehydration.

The report goes on to give information about my birth mother's attempt to re-gain custody of "her babies", but circumstances where not good.

Barbara was born and within two months taken to the ER the doctor who examined her found her to be "Mal-nourished and in pitiful shape". Once released from the hospital she was placed into the same foster family as I was in.

The report details how my birth mother's home was found and it indicated the residence to be so deplorable that it wasn't fit for her much less two young children.

Yes, before you ask, my feelings and plans to be re-united with my birth mother have not changed. I did explain to her that I was angry and even why. I also wanted to let her know that I honestly understood. I kinda lied about that part. Even at age fourteen I knew a baby needed baby food, and bottles.

I have asked Dorthy to go and check her mailbox as the small scrapbook I made her (after being mailed on August 16) was finally delivered. I assured her that she could call me tomorrow.

Today I just need some space and time to process what where very harsh words. I told her to enjoy her pictures. It is hard to place myself in her shoes, I can't imagine what it was like.

We where taken from her and for good reason. She was crying when I spoke with her last, 46 years of guilt, pain and anguish that will not end. I am sure she is haunted by visions of Barbara and I and how sick we had become from lack of basic care. The report is long and detailed. What I have shared is only a quick glimpse into the words contained there.

Time to re-group. I am humbled by this experience more than I can place into words. I am thankful for who I am and where the Lord has me now.

The Adoption Reunion chronicles, meet Uncle Shorty (Jerry) and Aunt Imogene

Bless Dorthy's heart. She had to call me one last time last night just to let me know my Uncle Robert "You know the one who lives in Chicago" will be calling me soon. Probably during the day once he is able to get out and "buy himself some more minutes". I am so glad that I just pay for a flat rate plan with our cell phone company.

Mike just smiled as he took my hand and gave it a squeeze. "She isn't going to rest until she can touch you". He said with confidence and a joyful smile. I just can't hardly believe our reunion is going to be here very soon.

I called Ibbet (to remind you her name is Elizbeth). With so many brothers and sisters living near her in Dalton, GA, it seem like a good idea to give out a few "Reunion" jobs. I've tasked Ibbet with contacting as many of the siblings that Dorthy gets along with and lets all meet up and break bread together while Mike and I are visiting.

Turns out after getting two recipes and driving directions that there is a Shoney's Restaurant that could probably accommodate our group.

Ibbet went on to tell me a bit about more about herself. She likes to make decorated crosses with ribbon, trim and lace. She makes them from Styrofoam. They are carved with a razor blade.

She also (a little sibling rivalry here) told me she likes to dip snuff. The funny part was apparently her and Dorthy disagree on occasion as to which snuff is the best to chew. I haven't asked Dorthy yet if she chews snuff, but my best bet is that she does.

She gave me the telephone numbers of Shorty (Jerry) and Imogene. Both very colorful characters. Shorty is on kidney dialysis and lives in a single wide trailer. He is just down Airport road and has an addition on the trailer.

He was very hard to understand at times. He did share that he has very high blood pressure and doesn't get along very well. But that his trailer has cable, running water and electric all included in his rent. Honestly, he sounded like some one on illicet drugs.

He does not drive but can read and write some what. He enjoys watching sports and day time tv. His wife and he have lived there for many years. He is now 50 years old and tired of reading the same magazines at the dialysis center.

Then I called and spoke with Imogene. Imogene is 51 now. In 1993 she had brain surgery to control her severe epilepsy. She called them "fits". She likes to attend church but admitted yesterday she decided to be "just plain lazy" and sleep in. She was planning to attend the evening services.

At the beginning of the conversation she knew who Ibbet and Willis and even knew where the restarant is. At the end of the conversation she did not.

She told me that she had asked about "Barbara Joyce". To remind those of you who are joining us now, please see this post to read our story from the beginning.

I had to tell her sadly that Barbara had died a few years back. Apparently she is not the only member of the Roberson family that died on their birthday. Apparently I had a great uncle that died on his birthday.

I am going to close up today's blog post and try to call some radio stations near Fort Payne, Alabama and try and get some interest in our adoption story. So far, no luck.

The Adoption Reunion Chronicles -- Aunt Ibbit and Uncle Willis

Yesterday's post chronicled my phone call with Uncle Willis who it turns out prefers for me to call him Charlie.

Later on Saturday I received a phone call from Elizbeth. She has always preferred to be called Ibbit (like Ribbit without the "R"). When I answered the phone I heard a precious voice, deep southern accent and a "Hi Loretta", "I'm your Aunt Ibbit".

She continued to chronicle the lineage of the family history. She once again Heralded my name at birth as being Loretta Lynn Vone. My birth father James Vone "a short skinny man" had indeed deceased in prison sometimes in the 1960's. I did learn that he is buried at the prison.

I found out that he was at the Penitentiary located in Millegeville, GA. Now for those of you who are just joining my story, I not only know where this prison is, but I grew up very close by in Augusta, GA. To read the first blog post, please click here.

I plan to call this facility on Monday to find out if they can verify my father's information.

Ibbit had three children of her own. The oldest would have been 50 this year but she died in her 20's of Asthma. Her other daughter is also deceased but she didn't really tell me any details about her life or death.

She did tell me that she is now 70 years old and living in a home in Dalton, GA. She has one surviving child, Tim who is 49 and at age 42 finished up his GED. She also is illiterate and does not drive.(Dorthy also does not drive). She depends upon her and her husband's Social Security to make ends meet.

She does go to church but stressed how 'organized religion' is not what she wants, she wants to worship the Lord.   They attend a "Living" waters church. I know this is a precious place for her. As a believer in Christ I so clearly see his hand guiding this entire process.

I also got to speak with Tim, Ibbit's only surviving child. Who until Saturday August 20, 2011 didn't even know his Aunt Dorthy had children.

A late night phone call from Dorthy was a bit more difficult for both she and I. I know that she has a bit too much time on her hands. She had been thinking of Barbara and wanted to know more about her life and her death. I told her what I could.

However, the bottom line is Barbara's life was a life that ended with unfulfilled potential. Cut short by an accidental prescription over dose. How the end of her life has affected me and more importantly precious Melissa.

  Unfortunately, Dorthy's phone battery died and I left her one last voice mail before turning into bed. Precious soul keeps forgetting the time difference between us. It gets late quickly.

   There are now better accounts of the three children that have now died, two boys and one girl. Both boys died of renal failure and Aunt Betty of breast cancer.

Ibbit likes crafts, and wants me to send her some pictures of our family. Which I will be happy to do. I plan to make some small hand made gifts to carry with me.

I also plan to take a cup and saucer from my China. I have been collecting since I was a senior in high school. As a small gift to Dorthy.

And yes, at times the information I am receiving is a bit over whelming. I pull my strength from the Lord and praise him for all the goodness he is blessing me and my family with.

Adoption Reunion -- The Chronicles Continue

This is a picture of Chad taken on August 12, 2011 he was almost too tall to ride some of the rides at Kings Dominion.

My story continues to un-fold with fascinating twists, turns and information.

My birth mother is so darn cute. She asked me last night if she could give my phone number to Brother Willis and sister Elizbeth.

This morning Dorthy called me to let me know she wasn't going to keep me on the phone as brother Willis would surly be calling me in the next few minutes.

About 15 minutes passed. It turns out Willis prefers to be called Charlie. He is now 64 years old living in Dalton, Ga. Has been married for 40 + Years and has a few children and grand children of his own. He loves to play guitar and has never learned to read or write.

He actually held me when I was an infant and couldn't do anything to prevent me being taken from my mother. Of course, I already had figured out this information. He was only 17 when this took place.

I am still in a dream like state with all the information I am receiving. I asked my precious husband, Mike if there was medication for over pinched cheeks! He just laughed and gave me a great warm hug.

Charlie has worked most of his life laying carpets, working on automobiles and driving trucks. His last few words to "be good and go to Church". He hopes that while I am visiting Dorthy we can meet again and visit as well. I hope for the same thing. Mike and I will have a rental car when we meet her.

Yes dates and times/reservations have been made, but for obvious reasons I won't post it to the blog. I've bought a second battery for my camera and extra AA batteries for Mike's camera. My dear friend Kris asked me if I was going to be able to tote that large box of tissue I'd be needing. I love her!

I hope you guys will continue to read my blog daily. I have some crafty projects finished and will post pictures soon.

Our Journey Continues -- an Adoption Reunion Story

More and more wonderful things are coming to light.

I requested a "Non-Identification Report" from The Georgia Adoption reunion registry.

Our social worker has finished the report and wanted to let me know that my very young mother tryed to fight to re-gain custody of my sister and I. She very much wanted us, but we where taken because of neglect. She was just too young to know how to care for us.

The registry uses the services of a private investigator and when they locate the adoptive person or family send out a letter. Very generic but in the correspondence there is a reference to the case that began on 12/15/1964 (date of child's birth) and give the phone number to the agency.

My birth mother is so cute, we've spoken just about every night and I actually anticipate an afternoon phone call. I have sent her a small mini scrapbook with pictures of Barbara and I as small children, and my school pictures through the years. I didn't have an opportunity to take photos of this project as I needed to get it postal as soon as I possibly could.

She put up a heck of a fight, and was able to visit Barbara and I once a month. There unfortunately came a time when the foster care we had been in transfered us to another one (That's how we ended up in Augusta) and she was no longer allowed to see us. There was a point she was calling so often that they had to get her to stop.

Fast forward 43 years, She is so "gun ho", she told me last night she was now going to be the "best mom ever". She keeps apologizing for things in the past. My husband spoke up, I want you all to read this part and keep it close to your heart "The future begins today". Leaving behind the past and pressing forward.

I laugh and cry and am thankful with every breath. Many of my old abandonment issues have melted away with the knowledge that I ws wanted, loved and am joyfully anticipated once again.

Wow! Are you sitting down, do I have NEWS for you! WOW!

I am actually starting this post on August 11, 2011. I have no idea when I will be actually able to publish it.

Here is the reason why. For many weeks now (about 2 months to be exact) I have been involved with the Adoption Reunion Registry in Georgia.

I will be continuing to get information from the Georgia court to have my actual Adoption Record unsealed so I may be able to keep it (the origional in its entirety) for my own personal records.

I have been told by my adoptive parents since I was very small that I was not only adopted but that my birth parents where killed in an automobile accident.

When I began my quest, I had to write my birth mother a letter, which was really stupid since I figured I would receive her death certificate, place of burial and possibly an obituary.

It was about 3:45 pm 8/11/2011 when the phone rang. It was Marissa. She is the Social worker for the agency. She started by telling me, "Loretta, we found your birth mother, she's alive". I was shocked. I stumbled over my words.

She continued and told me she had spoken with her and she has been searching for me many years. When Marissa initially spoke with her, my birth Mother's first reaction was "You found Loretta". Which turns out has always been my name.

She did not know that she had three grand kids or that her youngest child, my sister Barbara had died.

So many things I want to ask, so many questions have already been answered. From the physical description I was given of her, I think she will really resemble my younger sister.

Marissa let me know that my Mother wanted me to know "I love you and I've never stopped loving you". I'm now 46 years old and to know my birth mother and I will soon not only be able to have a wonderful conversation, but also (I hope very) soon be able to meet is such a blessing.

The following is from the email I sent my niece earlier today, after getting to talk with my birth mother on the phone in length.

PS my birth mother was 14 when I was born and barely 16 when Barbara was born.

Melissa;

I have been trying to call you the last few days, I have bunches of news for you.

After a very short (and sweet) search I found my birth mother (Your grandmother).

Barbara's name at birth was: Barbara Joyce -- born in Dalton, GA weigning in at 5 pounds 7 ounces
Mine name was: Loretta Lynn -- born in Chattanooga, TN in the front seat of a Cadillac in the parking lot of the hospital, weighing in at 7 pounds 5 ounces.

We where taken away from our birth mother forcefully and put into foster care, there are a couple of years of history missing, that I will have once the adoption record is unsealed.

Right now it is in the hands of a lady named Marissa she is with the Georgia Adoption Reunion Registry, this is the organization I used to do the search for our birth mother. I have already contacted both my attorney there in Augusta as well as the Judge whom I hope to hear from soon so that I can get the actual adoption fle.

The really interesting thing about the file is your mother's information and mine are in the same file. It is unusual because normally each child has his or her own folder, our file is very large and I will have more information soon.

There is a family history of Breast Cancer. Dorothy also has diabetes and mitral valve prolaps. She is now 61 years old.

Our birth father was named James Bone, he died in federal prison many years back. He was 34 when I was born. He had olive skin and brown eyes.

Your grandmother's name is Dorthy Sue Hollister Her birth day is 12/26/1949. She never had any more children other than Barbara (your mom) and I. She lives in Dawson, AL. Mike and I are planning to go visit her.

What I need from you are the photos of your mom that where taken during the school years, and any other pictures of her as a young child. I will be having these reproduced and returned to you as soon as possible.

What a joy this is. I have been told my entire life that my birth parents had died in a car accident. Think of how thrilled I am for both of us to find out she is indeed alive.

More Halloween Stick Pins!

What an Exciting Day!

Not only have I successfully completed the actual pins for the August Stick to it swap on YPP, but I have been invited by Roxy to start hosting the To Die for swap. This swap is to exchange die cuts and it is so fun to do!

I used lots of shrink plastic it the shapes where cut using both my Sizzix big shot and provo craft paper punches. It is hard to get the punch into shrink plastic, but work with it, and you'll be pleased with the results.

I also used glow in the dark pain on the tags and shrink plastic pieces, so they will glowint he dark. (How cool is that?!).

YPP Stick to it Swap for August

This adorable tag was made using my Gingerbread box die from sizzix. The die can be purchased (on clearance) at their web site.

I used a glow in the dark paint to accent the bats eyes, wings and the ghost at the top of the tag. I will take more pictures when every thing is dry, as I have not finished up the back of these yet.

The ghost in the window and the bats where both cut out using my big shot machine and shrinky dink plastic. I used my copic marker 110 to color the shrink plastic on the rough side of the plastic. Using a craft mat, I shrank down the piece, then kept heating the piece until it was clear. This also lightened up the color to more of a brown.

Altered bead box for MSC -- lots of pictures!

Altered Bead Box

for My Scrap Room

Since I have really loved doing the altered acrylic ladies desk caddies and the cigar box, I went full out on this altered bead box for My Scrap Room's Swap.

I actually started this box once the partners where posted on Thrusday, I finished it up except for the bottom this evening. It took me nearly 12 hours to complete.

My partner loves pinks, teal and white. Teal is a bit hard to find, so I used accents of teal and goodies inside the box in teal for this swap. The roses are rolled roses from my sizzix die, I am roses and Wild Orchid Crafts.

Since my partner is over seas, I will be finishing this up and mailing it out this week, so I can send it 'snail mail' and have it arrive by the deadline.

I had a really wonderful time with this. I first sanded the box with some medium grit sand paper, wipped off the fuzz, and used Aileens E78000 to attach the paper, flowers, trim, etc.

Hi Friends !

Heather at Squigglefly.com has come up with a super fun challenge, we as designers where challenged to come up with a card that featured our own hand writing.

I needed to make a gift and card for my senior friend, Ms. Vivian and felt this to be the perfect opportunity to make this adorable card.

Here is the slide show, I hope you enjoy my creations!

I used the image "To catch a falling nut", and colored it with copic markers. I took this card way over the top by adding handmade flowers, leaves and other embellishments.

I used the scraps from the Ladies desk caddy to complete the layout of this simple yet elegant card. The large acrylic photo frames have been purchased at my local Michael's craft store.

Squigglefly Sickity Sam!

This is sickity Sam from Squigglefly!

This seemed like an odd image to me, at least the first time I viewed it. Then I got to thinking how fun it would be to do a get well card for a neighbor complete with a bowl of hot chicken soup or a nice casserole.

I kept the layout of the card simple and used my own hand writing for the sentiment.

Some of my favorite colors are green and pink, I used the bright greens and yellows to brighten up the card. It was fun to create and I hope you'll hop on over to the squigglefly web site and see the great digi stamps you can purchase!

Wonderful Wednesday -- Altered Cigar box --

Hi friends!

I spent most of Tuesday working on this altered cigar box. I used my K and Company "watercolor" garden paper to decorate this beautiful box.

The flowers are cut from a sizzix flower, 3D and all of the other elements are from my personal collection.

The pictures where made while the project was still wet, so I could get my post for today together.

Please try this project for yourself. Cigar boxes can be purchased from your local tabacco retailer. This box cost me under $3.00. I am not altering the inside, as I enjoy the smell of the cedar wood.

Hello and happy Tuesday!

As promiced, a few notes on this project

The patterned paper measures 8 1/8" X 10". Edges sponged and it is tacked in place with Aileens 7800 glue.

The trim and ribbon/lace etc., was from my private collection. Ebay and Craig's list are great resources for buying pretty antique lace for a reasonable price.

I used Shrinky dink brand shrink plastic. The bling is from Hobby Lobby as are the note pads, paper packs. The sticky notes are from my local office supply store. If you have any questions, please email me at Ms.Rhetta@gmail.com

Hang 10 with squigglefly

Heather, one of the group leads for my Squigglefly Design group challenged us designers to come up with a summer themed 'Hang Ten'.

I went through my stach of papers and card stock and came up with a perfect beachy type theme. I used the binki and swim trunks from Squigglefly, printed out on high quality white card stock and colored with copic markers.

I really enjoyed making this card, it measures 6" X 6" finished. Please go visit Holly and her great digital world of the fun stuff.
